Whistler, BC: Starting this Friday, December 14, the popular public bobsleigh and skeleton activities will be back at the Whistler Sliding Centre. Public sliding will be offered daily until March 31, 2019. The activities are not affected by weather so will run in all conditions, snow, rain or bluebird. The Whistler Sliding Centre is a non-profit organization, and all proceeds from public sliding go directly towards growing sport at the venue and support bobsleigh, skeleton and luge athletes.

In bobsleigh, guests ride in a 4-person sled, steered by a professional pilot, and slide through ten corners of the world’s fastest track with speeds of up to 125 km/hr. Minimum age is 14, one ride costs $189 (youth 14-16 get 50% off). In skeleton, guests launch themselves head-first down the ice and slide through the track’s final six corners with speeds of up to 100km/hr, solo on their own skeleton sled. Minimum age for skeleton is 16, the price is $189 and includes two runs. Both activities include an orientation and background information on the Whistler Sliding Centre’s sports, athletes and operation. For both activities, participants must meet specific physical, health and safety requirements.

This season, guests might even be lucky and slide with some of Canada’s best bobsleigh athletes, as the venue’s resident pilots will be joined by Canada’s Taylor Austin and Olympians Chris Lori and Chris Spring, who will all make guest appearances to pilot public through the winter.

More information and booking is available here for Public Bobsleigh, here for Public Skeleton, or by phone at 604-964-0040.

While the public activities kick off this weekend, it is already the centre’s tenth week of operation this winter season. Sliding athletes started training on ice on October 8th, and the venue has already been host to multiple national and international races, among them the Luge World Cup late November/early December. Later this season, from February 25 to March 10, 2019, the Whistler Sliding Centre will host the biggest event since the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 – the IBSF Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships.
