Whistler, BC: Traditionally, Canadian Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the fall season, however the Whistler Sliding Centre is already in full winter mode, with ice in track and athletes training at the Olympic legacy facility.
This year, the public can get early access to the unique Passenger Bobsleigh activity during the “Turkey Slide” event! On Saturday and Sunday, October 12 and 13, Passenger Bobsleigh will be offered at 12:30pm. These early season sessions are available for $149/person. The Whistler Sliding Centre is the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh on ice. After an orientation, participants slide down the track in a 4-person bobsled -driven by a professional pilot- through 10 corners at speeds of 125+ km/hr and the acceleration of up to 4 g-forces. No previous experience is required to participate, minimum age is 14, some physical restrictions apply.
Additional pre-season Passenger Bobsleigh sessions will be offered on October 18 & 19 (4:30pm) and November 9 & 10 (1:30pm). The regular public sliding season with daily rides will start on December 20. With the first athletes on ice on October 8, this winter season starts early at the Whistler Sliding Centre. The on-ice season will go until late March 2020. Spectating in the public areas and self-guided sightseeing are available free of charge (except special events), the weekly track schedule is available here.
