Whistler, BC: On Monday afternoons in August, participants of the “Olympic Biathlon Tour” at Whistler Olympic Park will have very special guides: Athletes of the park’s Whistler Nordic Development Centre will lead visitors through the tour experience and introduce them to the Olympic winter sport of biathlon.
The “Olympic Biathlon Tour” ($55/adult, $40/youth) is a 90-minute experience, including a walking tour, instruction in shooting a 22 caliber rifle, and a walking/running biathlon race at the Olympic shooting range. While the tour is offered daily, the special athlete guides will lead the tours on Mondays August 5, 12, 19 & 26 at 1:00pm and 2:30pm. There is no extra charge for the athlete guided tours. Advance booking is recommended for all tours.
“We are excited that our athletes, who are training with us full-time, have the opportunity to connect with our guests and give them a firsthand and passionate introduction to their sport, and to their lives as development athletes”, says Tim Hope, Managing Director of Whistler Olympic Park. The Whistler Nordic Development Centre is a training hub for young biathletes and cross-country skiers between 17 and 22 years. Currently, 15 athletes from all over Canada and overseas train full-time at the Olympic legacy venue.
Apart from the Olympic Biathlon Tour, also the “E-Bike & Biathlon Adventure Tour” is available daily. Visitors can also explore the park’s famous sights and lookouts through self-guided activities such as hiking, biking on electric assist mountain bikes, or play disc golf or backyard games. The Day Lodge is the activity hub for the summer, with a new interpretive Olympic & Nature Exhibit, licensed snack bar, patio and gift shop.
Park entry fee is $15/vehicle, entry fees and tour proceeds go directly towards supporting athletes and growing sport within the non-profit organization. The entry fee is waived when booking a tour online prior to arrival. When arriving without a tour booking, the entry fee includes a $5 coupon to be applied to any activity.
