Refrigeration Operations Apprentice
Whistler Sliding Centre is a world-class bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge facility built for the 2010 Olympic games. Our Refrigeration system is world class and a highly unique working environment for someone looking to grow their career in Refrigeration Operations.
This Hourly Full-Time position works within the facility Operations team while gaining hands-on experience, on-the-job training, and certification needed to qualify as a Refrigeration Operator in British Columbia. The role requires flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends, evenings and overnight.
Wage: From $23.00 per hour depending on skills, experience and education
Whistler Sport Legacies and the Whistler Sliding Centre, reimburses costs associated with education and certification as a “Refrigeration Operator” upon course and provincial exam completion. WSL/WSC also provides paid study time and mentorship while you gain the hours and necessary competencies to qualify as a Refrigeration Operator.

Timeline: Full-time and year-round from day one. The first ~24 months run as an apprenticeship, rotating through facility maintenance and refrigeration operations across the seasons with paid study time. After that, the apprenticeship wraps and the role continues permanently.
Apprentice duties:
- Ensure operations are performed safely and efficiently according to industry standards
- Perform routine maintenance work such as painting, HVAC maintenance, basic plumbing, mechanical systems inspection, monitoring of building systems, tracking and reporting of preventative tasks for all WSC buildings/facilities
- Clean and sanitize facility areas
- Waste and recycling sorting and removal
- Completion of work orders, logbooks, shift turn over reports and other communication protocols
- Provide on-site security and emergency response for safety or operational concerns
- Assisting with equipment diagnostics, cleaning components, and troubleshooting issues
- Foster a strong culture of safety
- Ensure that all WorkSafe BC and BC Safety Authority requirements are being met
- Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM: All Interactions Matter
- Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
Position Requirements
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma required
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required
- Valid Class 4 BC driver’s license an asset
- Ammonia Safety Awareness Certificate an asset
- Advanced First aid (OFA 3) an asset
- Ice making experience an asset

General knowledge of the Whistler Sliding Centre venue, and the sports of Bobsleigh, Luge, Skeleton, as well as familiarity with a high-performance sport training environment is an asset
