Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) is a world-class Nordic sport and recreation venue located in the beautiful Callaghan Valley, just south of Whistler. Home to Olympic legacy facilities, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon and a variety of recreational programs, WOP welcomes athletes, families, school groups and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the winter season.
We are currently hiring a Lead, Nordic Program Instructor to support the daily leadership and coordination of our Sport School team. This is a hands-on role for an experienced Nordic skier who enjoys teaching, supporting other instructors and creating memorable experiences for guests of all ages. If you are a confident instructor, natural team leader and love spending your winter outside, we would love to hear from you. Please note that reliable transportation is required to successfully work at Whistler Olympic Park. Our beautiful location is not serviced by public transit.
Job Overview
Position: Lead, Nordic Program Instructor
Department: Whistler Olympic Park – Sport & Programs
Status: Temporary Full-Time
Housing: Affordable staff housing available for Full-Time employees
Schedule: Must be available to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays
Location: Whistler Olympic Park, Callaghan Valley
Wage: $25.50 per hour
Start Date: November 9, 2026
What You’ll Do
- Lead and support instructors and volunteers in the day-to-day delivery of Sport School programs.
- Help coordinate daily activities, assign tasks and ensure clear communication across the team.
- Instruct individuals, groups and children in cross-country skiing, including both classic and skate techniques.
- Support additional Sport School activities including snowshoeing, biathlon, tobogganing and snow luge.
- Conduct morning team meetings and help coordinate instructors, lessons, bookings and guest arrivals.
- Create a welcoming and positive guest experience, including responding to questions or concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Work closely with Guest Services and other venue teams to support daily operations, programs and special events.
- Help maintain Sport School equipment and provide ski equipment expertise when needed.
- Lead the daily set-up and upkeep of Sport School areas, including the teaching grid, Ski Play area and adventure trails.
- Complete trail checks, assist with snow preparation and maintenance, and test features to ensure they are safe for recreational use.
- Support program administration including attendance, rental equipment, program communications and school group coordination.
- Promote a strong culture of teamwork, safety and exceptional guest service.
What You Bring
- Strong cross-country skiing skills in both classic and skate techniques.
- One or more of the following certifications:
- Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI)
- Cross Country Canada NCCP
- Biathlon Canada NCCP
- Recognized international equivalent
- Previous customer service experience.
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence leading and supporting a team in a busy, guest-focused environment.
- A positive, adaptable and can-do approach.
- Ability to remain composed, organized and effective when things get busy.
- A genuine passion for teaching, outdoor recreation and creating great guest experiences.
- First Aid certification is preferred.
- A Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) and valid BC Driver’s Licence are assets.
- Experience in snowshoeing, biathlon, ski jumping or Nordic combined is an asset.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required prior to starting employment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in variable winter weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to safely guide participants through ski lessons and physical activities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable winter transportation is required, as Whistler Olympic Park is not serviced by public transit.
