Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) is a world-class Nordic sport and recreation venue located in the beautiful Callaghan Valley, just south of Whistler. Home to Olympic legacy facilities, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon and a variety of recreational programs, WOP welcomes athletes, families, school groups and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the winter season.
We are currently hiring Nordic Program Instructors to join our Sport School team. This role is all about sharing your passion for Nordic sport while creating safe, fun and memorable experiences for guests of all ages and abilities. You’ll deliver cross-country ski lessons and other winter programs while helping guests build skills, confidence and a love for being outside. Status: Temporary Full-Time/Part-Time/Casual

Wage: $21.00 - $27.00 per hour based on experience

What You’ll Do
- Instruct individuals and groups of all ages in cross-country skiing, including classic and skate techniques.
- Deliver additional Nordic programs and activities including biathlon and snowshoeing.
- Create a safe, welcoming and engaging environment for program participants.
- Help guests select programs, products and services that best meet their needs.
- Develop strong knowledge of WOP products and services, including day tickets, season passes, instructional programs and rental equipment.
- Respond to guest questions and concerns professionally and help create an exceptional guest experience.
- Prepare, set up and maintain instructional areas and Sport School equipment.
- Assist with snowshoe trail grooming and maintenance as required.
- Work collaboratively with Guest Services, volunteers, clubs, user groups and other venue teams.
- Support special events and other operational areas including rentals, Guest Services and snow clearing when required.
- Maintain program attendance and achievement records and assist with rental equipment and retail products.
- Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy: AIM – All Interactions Matter.
When assigned to biathlon programming, responsibilities may also include supporting safe range operations, preparing and maintaining equipment, instructing guests and assisting with range maintenance in accordance with established procedures.
What You Bring
- Cross-country skiing experience with the ability to perform both classic and skate techniques.
- One or more of the following certifications:
- Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI)
- Cross Country Canada or Biathlon Canada NCCP certification
- Recognized international training or experience equivalent to the above qualifications
- Previous customer service experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and listening skills.
- Ability to connect with guests and confidently guide participants through ski lessons and physical activities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to support other areas of the operation when needed.
- Biathlon coaching, marksmanship, firing range or firearms safety instruction experience is preferred.
- A current Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) is preferred.
- First Aid certification is preferred.
- A valid BC Class 5 or Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s Licence is an asset.
- Knowledge of other Olympic Nordic disciplines is an asset.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required prior to starting employment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in variable winter weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, crouch or kneel for extended periods.
- Ability to safely guide participants through ski lessons and physical activities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable winter transportation is required, as Whistler Olympic Park is not serviced by public transit.
