Whistler Sport Legacies is a not-for-profit organization responsible for the operation of the 2010 Olympic legacy facilities Whistler Sliding Centre, Whistler Olympic Park and the Whistler Athletes’ Centre. True to its dedication to grow sport assisting the vision to achieve a vibrant healthy sport community, the organization fosters public participation in sports, and maintains world-class training and competition facilities for athletes. 

Human Resources is part of WSL’s administration team and works closely with all divisions to support the delivery of objectives outlined in the Strategic Plan.  Among their many responsibilities, they play a key role in ensuring WSL remains an inclusive employer of choice by attracting, developing, and retaining colleagues in alignment with our core values and organizational governance framework.

Administrative departments, including Human Resources, are vital to the effective operation of our venues.  Their work is underpinned by cooperation, trust, open communication, and ethical practice. Strong teamwork and mutual understanding are essential in fostering respectful relationships and building trust both internally and externally.

Manager, Human Resources ensures human resource initiatives and programs are current. Regular Salary Full Time role, reporting to the President and CEO, and in close collaboration with leadership, responsibilities include leading and implementing initiatives that support administrative functions, enhance employee engagement and performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Wage:  $90,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Assist the President and CEO to drive organizational change initiatives by working with senior leadership team to meet organizational goals
  • Provide advice, guidance, and assistance to management and supervisors on HR issues and services
  • Support alignment and achievement of WSL’s vision, mission, values and goals
  • Foster a positive work environment and effective colleague relations by upholding WSL core values, recognizing and rewarding success, and addressing employee relation matters with fairness, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Ensure compliance related to relevant human resource legislation
  • Liaise with the payroll/accounting department on labour standards compliance
  • Support full-cycle recruitment activities including job postings, screening, interviewing, and coordinating hiring processes.
  • Ensure various HR programs are effectively delivered including onboarding, performance management, colleague survey results and other programs
  • Develop, prepare and drive initiatives to promote a culture of success through effective internal communications and consistent messaging
  • Assist in developing strategic plans and annual departmental budgets
  • Internal communication support includes:
    • Ensure appropriate internal communication plans are in place, addressing the goals and needs of the department and project initiatives
    • Company policy education and any associated change management
    • Coordinate monthly management meetings and seek to enhance their value and effectiveness
    • Involvement in employee engagement efforts, including internal communication and appreciation events
    • Participation in any special internal communication projects, as they arise
    • Encourage a culture of two-way internal communication, constructive feedback, sharing of best practices and knowledge
  • Generalized support and oversight of HR management systems
  • Develop general document templates and formatting of corporate documents
  • Maintain and update existing HR documents, manuals, handbooks as required to ensure relevance and current information
  • Provide support and guidance to colleagues on HR-related queries and processes
  • Assist in fostering compliance with Health & Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met
  • Promote Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophies: AIM (all interactions matter) and LEAF
  • Assists team with other duties as assigned or deemed appropriate.
  • Other duties and activities supporting the CEO including operational reporting and cross-functional coordination, as required. 

 

Leadership

  • Responsible for directing and managing colleagues with emphasis on the following areas:
    • Position Description review, recruitment and selection
    • Orientation and ongoing training
    • Adherence to WSL policies and procedures
    • Creation of departmental policies and procedures
    • Performance management
    • Employee relations
    • Succession planning
    • Management of appropriate partners/vendors

 

Position Requirements

Education/Experience

  • 3-5 years experience in generalized Human Resources is required
  • Appropriate education in Human Resources and/or HR certification an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in Employment Standards and Human Rights regulations, supported by knowledge of labour laws, compliance requirements, and HR best practices
  • Previous managerial experience is an asset
  • Comprehensive training and education in communications are essential
  • Strong understanding of MS Office products required
  • Valid standard class BC Driver’s License required

  • Sport Development – A comprehensive understanding of how to develop athletes at all levels of the Canadian Sport for Life model; including their needs
  • Business Skills – Organizational management including budgeting, human resources, business development, reporting and Board engagement
  • Team Player – The ego is checked at the door.  Has the best interest of Sport and WSL at heart and engages the team and stakeholders through an open, honest and collaborative process
  • Community Involvement – Solid understanding of the Sea-to-Sky community, especially Whistler, and how partnerships are developed, nurtured, strengthened and cares about the region
  • Partnership Development – Proven track record in developing strategic partnerships both in sport and the community
