Lead, Nordic Program Instructor
Whistler Olympic Park is a world-class destination for outdoor recreation activities & Nordic sports, located just south of Whistler in the stunning Callaghan Valley. Established for the 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games, the Park’s incredible facilities are now enjoyed by both high-performance athletes and recreational guests alike.
Lead, Nordic Program Instructor plays a pivotal role in the daily leadership and coordination of the Sport School team at Whistler Olympic Park. As the senior on-site Sport Coach, role ensures the seamless delivery of all public sport programs by maintaining high standards of instruction and delivering exceptional customer service.
Fostering a positive and welcoming environment for guests and staff alike, role is a key point of contact and supports the development of instructional staff. Responsibilities include coordinating daily Sport School operations, overseeing program delivery, and working collaboratively with venue colleagues to support programs and events. Duties include the preparation and maintenance of indoor and outdoor facilities, including the Ski Play area and kids’ adventure trails, to ensure a safe and engaging experience. Seasonal Full Time role requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
Wage: $24.00 to $27.00 per hour dependent on experience and certification(s)

Responsibilities
Programs - Sport School
- Lead instructors and volunteers in day-to-day operations, ensuring inclusion within the department team
- Assist with daily planning of activities and prioritization of tasks, while providing consistent communication
- Instruct individuals, groups, and children in all Sport School programs / activities including cross-country skiing (classic and skate), snowshoeing, biathlon, tobogganing, and snow luge
- Liaise with Guest Services and other venue colleagues to carry out daily operations
- Address guest and client issues and/or complaints with empathy and a focus on guest satisfaction with support from Supervisor/Manager when necessary
- Provide ski equipment technical expertise as requested
- Assist Supervisor, Sport and Programs with appropriate inventory requirements of rental to maintain appropriate stock for Sport School programs
- Lead the general up-keep of the Sport School areas, including the daily set-up and inventory of indoor/outdoor equipment
- Lead team with the execution of special events as required
- Assist promotion and cross-promotion of organizational products and services when interacting with guests and clients
Operations - Ski Play/Adventure Trails
- Liaise with grooming staff and Supervisor/Manager to ensure appropriate machine snow preparation is completed prior to final manual snow preparation
- Manual preparation of the teaching grid, ski play area, and adventure trails using shovels, rakes, scoop shovels, fencing, signage, v-boards, and slalom poles, etc.
- Ensure trail checks are completed on Adventure Trails and lead trail maintenance
- Testing of features to ensure safety for recreational use
Administration
- Maintain individual/group attendance on registered programs
- Assist with issuing rental equipment
- Laise with onsite food vendor to ensure accuracy and on-time delivery of school lunches
- Check programs email for inquiries, updates, and school program communications
- Conduct morning team meeting and assign pre-program tasks
- Monitor day-of bookings and arrivals
- Act as liaison between guests and colleagues at lesson start times, ensuring guests are matched with assigned instructor
- Deliver high level customer service, with guest experience being the number one priority
- Provide a leadership role and represent the organization’s mission, vision, and values
- Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met

- Assist team including Supervisor/Manager with other duties as assigned or required
Position Requirements
Education/Experience
- Experienced and skilled cross-country skier with ability to perform both classic and skate techniques
- One or more of the following certifications required:
- Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI)
- Cross Country Canada’s National Coaching Certification (NCCP)
- Biathlon Canada’s National Coaching Certification (NCCP)
- International equivalent of the above qualifications
- Experience working in customer service required
- Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) an asset
- Satisfactory criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement of employment
- Valid BC Driver’s License an asset
- First Aid certification is preferred
- Experience volunteering and/or working in a volunteer organization such as a not-for-profit sport organization an asset

Physical Requirements
- Reliable winter transportation (WOP is not serviced by public transit)
- Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in variable winter weather conditions
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
