Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) is a world-class Nordic sport and recreation venue located in the beautiful Callaghan Valley, just south of Whistler. Home to Olympic legacy facilities, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biathlon and a variety of recreational programs, WOP welcomes athletes, families, school groups and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the winter season.
We are currently hiring Biathlon Program Instructors to join our Sport School team. This role combines biathlon instruction, range operations and guest service, creating safe, engaging and memorable experiences for guests of all ages and abilities. If you have experience in biathlon, marksmanship or firearms instruction, enjoy working with people and would love to share your skills at an Olympic legacy venue, we would love to hear from you. Please note that reliable transportation is required to successfully work at Whistler Olympic Park. Our beautiful location is not serviced by public transit.
Job Overview
Position: Biathlon Program Instructor
Department: Whistler Olympic Park – Sport & Programs
Status: Temporary Full-Time/Part-Time/Casual
Housing: Affordable staff housing available for Full-Time employees
Schedule: Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays
Location: Whistler Olympic Park, Callaghan Valley
Wage: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour based on experience
Start Date: November 16, 2026
What You’ll Do
- Deliver safe, engaging biathlon instruction to individuals and groups of all ages.
- Educate and guide guests through biathlon programs and activities.
- Act as Range Safety Officer when assigned to biathlon programming and range activities.
- Manage and maintain the range, firing line, rifles and targets in a safe and efficient manner.
- Prepare and maintain biathlon equipment and instructional areas.
- Complete range maintenance and manual grooming as directed by Sport Operations.
- Instruct additional Nordic programs and activities including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing as required.
- Create a safe, welcoming and positive environment for all participants and guests.
- Respond professionally to guest questions and concerns.
- Develop strong knowledge of WOP products and services to help guests make the most of their visit.
- Work collaboratively with Guest Services, clubs, user groups, volunteers and other venue teams.
- Assist with the daily set-up and upkeep of Sport School areas and equipment.
- Support special events and other operational areas, including rentals, Guest Services and snow clearing, when required.
- Maintain program attendance and achievement records.

What You Bring
- Experience as a biathlon coach, marksmanship instructor, firing range instructor or firearms safety instructor.
- A current Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).
- Experience with bolt-action rifles.
- One or more of the following certifications:
- Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI)
- Cross Country Canada or Biathlon Canada NCCP certification
- Recognized international training or experience equivalent to the above qualifications
- Previous customer service experience.
- Strong understanding of range protocols and the ability to maintain a safe firearms environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and listening skills.
- Ability to confidently guide participants through lessons and physical activities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Cross-country ski experience in classic and skate techniques is preferred.
- First Aid certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of other Olympic Nordic disciplines is an asset.
- A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred; a Class 4 Unrestricted Licence is an asset.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required prior to starting employment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in variable winter weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, crouch or kneel for extended periods.
- Ability to safely guide participants through lessons and physical activities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable winter transportation is required, as Whistler Olympic Park is not serviced by public transit.
