Whistler, BC - When Whistler visitors and residents hear the sound of thunder coming from the Fitzsimmons Valley this summer, it will not be weather-related. The rolling thunder will be bobsleighs, speeding down the Whistler Sliding Centre’s world-famous track on rubber wheels, loaded with four excited passengers!
This summer, the new public bobsleigh experience “Rolling Thunder” will enable four guests to try a bobsleigh run on the Whistler Sliding Centre’s track, though not on ice, but in specifically designed wheeled bobsleighs. Driven by trained bobsleigh pilots, the sleds will reach speeds of up to 80-85 kilometers an hour. While the summer sleds are a little slower than their winter counterparts, passengers will experience a similar adrenaline rush while rolling down Whistler’s Olympic sliding track. This thrilling activity will be offered from late June until early September. The price for one ride is $89 plus tax per person (participants must be 12 years or older) and online booking will be possible from June 1st onwards.
The summer bobsleigh experience is first of its kind in British Columbia, only the Calgary track offers a similar activity in Canada. “This experience is a unique addition to our region’s recreational productsand it cannot be compared to any other activity in Whistler. Summer bobsleigh will remind our guests that we are a leading venue for winter sports, and the proceeds from our summer program will help us grow sport in our winter disciplines,” explains Roger Soane, President & CEO of Whistler Sport Legacies, the organization that operates the Whistler Sliding Centre.
