Free coaching courses and appreciation events for Sea to Sky sport coaches during Canada’s first ‘National Coaches Week’, September 19-27

Whistler, BC: Whistler Sport Legacies, together with the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the District of Squamish and in co-operation with ViaSport, a provincial leader in promoting sport and physical activity, is celebrating the first ‘National Coaches Week’ from September 19-27. With that, the organizations appreciate the daily work of coaches from grassroots to professional level, and their dedication to grow sport, skills, passion and their importance in building athletes’ personalities and pathways of success.

During the National Coaches Week, numerous coaching course opportunities on different topics will be offered to coaches from the Sea to Sky corridor for free. Everybody can participate, whether they are coaches from national or provincial sport organizations, regional sport club coaches, volunteers, coaching parents, teachers or athletes wanting to enhance their coaching skills. The National Coaching Certification Program courses are offered between September 19 and 27, participation is free of charge (pre-registration is required online).

On September 25, a special thank-you night for Whistler coaches will be held at Whistler’s PassivHaus. The Whistler Coaches Night will have a very special guest: Own the Podium’s Winter Director, Peter Judge, who has represented Canada at seven Olympic Winter Games as a coach and team leader. As an inductee of the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame and a five-time winner of the Coaching Association of Canada’s Coaching Excellence Award, Judge will be able to provide the invited coaches with inspiring first-hand experiences and words of appreciation and encouragement. Coaches that did not receive an invitation but are interested in attending can contact Whistler Sport Legacies.
