Bobsleigh Pilot Development Program

The Bobsleigh Pilot Development Program offers an exciting opportunity for youth and adults aged 16 and above who have successfully completed a Bobsleigh Foundation School (or equivalent). This program stream caters to individuals at all skill levels, ranging from novice sliders to high-performance development athletes who aspire to advance into Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton national programs or become a pilot for the Passenger Bobsleigh activity. With a focus on maximizing athlete potential, the program follows a systematic approach and provides a framework to support athletes as they progress along the development pathway.

Running from November to late March, the program features several multi-day intensive training camps. Athletes have the flexibility to participate in one, multiple, or all camps throughout the season. These full-day camps encompass a comprehensive training experience, including on-ice and off-ice coaching, strength and conditioning sessions as well as equipment education. With experienced coaches leading the way, athlete safety, skill development and enjoyment of the sport are ensured (read more about our coaches here). Furthermore, camp participants can participate in provincial and national competitions held during the winter season.

For international athletes interested in sliding on the renowned Whistler track, the possibility of joining the program is available pending approval by the camp coach.

  • October 11 to 15, 2023 (Youth Olympic Winter Games athletes only)
  • November 22 to 26, 2023 (limited space)
  • December 20 to 23, 2023 (combined camp, limited space)
  • January 10 to 21, 2024 (combined camp, limited space)
  • January 31 to February 11, 2024 (combined camp, limited space)
  • March 20 to 31, 2024 (limited space)

Multi-Day Camp Inclusions

(full camp)
  • On-ice training sessions 
  • Off-ice seminars/video analysis sessions 
  • Strength & conditioning sessions and gym access

  • Eligible for discounted accommodation at Whistler Athletes' Centre

Camp Fees

(Per Camp; Program cost includes the use of a sled & coaching)

5- Day Camp:

  • $400 Canadian athletes
  • $600 International athletes (any athlete that does not compete for Canada)

12-Day Camp

  • $960 Canadian athletes
  • $1,440 International athletes (any athlete that does not compete for Canada)  

Full-Time Program

  • $5,000 Canadian athletes (includes all camps, and dryland training between camps); accommodation extra
  • $7,000 International athletes (includes all camps, and dryland training between camps); accommodation extra
ADDITIONAL FEEs:
  • BC Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association Athlete membership (required for all athletes): $50
  • Bobsleigh helmet purchase
ACCOMMODATION:

Has been pre-reserved at a discounted cost for camp attendees at the Whistler Athletes' Centre. On a double occupancy basis, prices include full room and board.

The camp registration deadline is three weeks prior to the start of each camp. The Camp fee will increase by 10% for late registration. Please make sure you submit your registration by the deadline to allow for camp planning and organization to ensure the safety of athletes and staff.
