Seasonal Novice Luge Program

Children and youth that want to pick up luge as a weekly activity can sign up for the Novice Program! Participants can train on ice one to four times per week. Consistent coaching support ensures progression and skill development. The coaches also share knowledge about the sport of luge in general, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship (read more about our coaches here).

General Program Info
Who Children and youth ages 8-14, no previous experience needed
On-ice luge training & coordination development:
  • November 17, 2021 to March 26, 2022
  • Options to be on ice one to four times a week
  • Five training sessions per week to choose from (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons, Saturday mornings)
  • On-ice luge times may vary slightly, anticipated core hours:
    • Evening sessions 4:30pm check-in & 5:30-7:00pm on ice OR 5:00pm check-in & 6:00–8:00pm on ice
    • Saturday mornings: 9:00am check-in and 10:00-11:30am on-ice

Seasonal training fees:

  • 1 session/week: $700
  • 2-3 sessions/week: $1,150
  • 4 sessions/week: $1,525
  • All luge athletes must be current members of the BC Luge Association (at additional cost, paid directly to BCLA)

Cost includes on-ice training and pre-season dryland (October/November), as well as use of a luge sled. Novice/beginner athletes must bring their own properly adjusted snow sport helmet.

Later program start is possible (pro-rated). Race fees & travel costs not included in program fees.

  • BC Cup #1: December 16-17, 2021
  • BC Cup #2: January 13-14, 2022
  • BC Cup #3: February 10-11, 2022
  • Canadian Youth Championships: March 12-13, 2022
  • BC Championships: March 18-19, 2022
