Bobsleigh Progression Camps

Youth and adults ages 16 and up who have successfully completed a Bobsleigh Pilot School (or equivalent), or those who want to progress as brakemen can participate in the Bobsleigh Progression Camps. Target group for this program stream are all levels, from novice sliders to high-level development athletes who are working towards moving into Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton national programs. The program focuses on a systematic approach to maximize athlete potential and provides a framework to assist athletes as they move up the development pathway.

A series of 5-day intensive training camps run from November to late March. Athletes can participate in one, multiple or all camps in the season. Recreational participants can join single days of camps (pre-registration required). The full-day camps include on-ice and off-ice coaching, strength & conditioning sessions and equipment education. This comprehensive program ensures athlete safety, skill development and enjoyment of the sport. Camp participants have the option to participate in provincial and national competitions held throughout the winter season.

International athletes who are interested in sliding on the Whistler track may be able to join pending approval by the camp coach.

In the 2020/21 season, there will be seven 5-day camps:

  • November 18 - 22, 2020
  • December 2 - 6, 2020
  • December 27 - 31, 2020
  • February 10 - 14, 2021
  • February 24 - 28, 2021
  • March 10 - 14, 2021
  • March 24 - 28, 2021

Cost
  • Camp Fees (per camp):
    • $400 Domestic Pilot
    • $600 International Pilot
    • $100 Brakeman
  • Additional Fee: BC Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association Athlete Membership (required): $50

Program cost includes use of a beginner sled and helmet, high performance sleds available for additional costs.

Race fees and travel costs are in addition to the program fees.

Camp registration forms will be sent to athletes one month prior to the start of each camp. The deadline to submit registration will be one week prior to the camp start date. Please make sure you submit your registration by the deadline, as camp planning and organization will be more complex during the pandemic, and we need sufficient notice of your participation to ensure the safety of athletes and staff.
