Beginner Bobsleigh instruction Whistler Sliding Centre

Bobsleigh Foundation School

Youth and adults (16+) that want to acquire the skills to become a bobsleigh pilot can enrol in one of our multi-day Bobsleigh Foundation Schools. These are held on select dates from November to March. Schools generally occur three times over the winter season and take five days to complete.

During the school, the basic skills needed to pilot a bobsleigh are taught in the classroom and practiced on the ice. Athletes begin at Curve 7 in a non-articulated training sled before moving into an articulated 2-man bobsleigh. Participation in the Bobsleigh Foundation School includes both driving and braking duties, as participants will trade off with one another during the sessions. Over the course of the five days, experienced coaches help athletes develop and refine their skills as they move to higher start heights on the track (read more about our coaches here).

Successful completion of a Bobsleigh Foundation School allows athletes to join the B.C. Sliding Development Centre’s Bobsleigh Progression Camps, where athletes further refine their skills and eventually move to the top of the Whistler track.
