5-Day Bobsleigh Pilot School
Youth and adults (16+) that want to acquire the skills to become a bobsleigh pilot can enrol in one of our multi-day Bobsleigh Pilot School programs. These are held on select dates from November to March. Schools generally occur three times over the winter season and take five days to complete.
During the school, the basic skills needed to pilot a bobsleigh are taught in the classroom and practiced on the ice. Athletes begin at Curve 7 in a non-articulated training sled before moving into an articulated 2-man bobsleigh. Participation in the Bobsleigh Pilot School includes both driving and braking duties, as participants will trade off with one another during the sessions. Over the course of the five days, athletes develop and refine their skills as they move to higher start heights on the track.
Successful completion of a Bobsleigh Pilot School allows athletes to join the B.C. Sliding Development Centre’s Seasonal Bobsleigh Program, where athletes further refine their skills and eventually move to the top of the Whistler track.
