In the winter season, the Whistler Sliding Centre offers affordable introductory programs for luge, skeleton and bobsleigh to schools and universities. In a safe and fun environment, students learn the basics of sliding sports with expert coaches.

Elementary Schools

The Whistler Sliding Centre is offering the “Sliding School” program to elementary student’s grades 3 and above this winter season. Students will receive instruction from certified/experienced instructors in luge, along with a tour of the world class facility and host venue for the 2010 Olympic sliding events.

  • Dates available: November to March, excluding Pro D days, holidays and international competition weeks.
  • We can accommodate up to 60 students per day, from varying grades. The luge program is targeted for students grades 3 and above (ages 8-14).
  • Venue tours can be arranged to compliment the sport experience. Please ask about cross curricular opportunities (e.g. general sciences, physical education).

Secondary Schools

The Whistler Sliding Centre is offering the “Sliding School” program to secondary school students grades 7-12. Students will receive instruction from certified/experienced instructors in luge, bobsleigh and/or skeleton, along with a tour of the world-class facility and host venue for the 2010 Olympic sliding events.

  • Sports available: Luge, Bobsleigh, Skeleton

  • Dates available: November to March, excluding Pro D days, holidays and international competition weeks.
  • The luge program is targeted for students in grades 3-8 (ages 8-14). The skeleton program is for students 14 years of age and older. The bobsleigh program is for students 16 years of age and older.
  • No experience is required. Athletes will receive a safety orientation and instructions prior to heading outside for an on-ice sliding session to build familiarity with the sport. All programs start at beginner-friendly start points along the track (luge corner 13, skeleton Maple Leaf Start, bobsleigh corner seven start).
  • Venue tours can be arranged to complement the sport experience. 
  • We have several volunteer opportunities for secondary students to assist with their graduation requirements.

Universities

The Whistler Sliding Centre invites university students to come try bobsleigh and skeleton this winter season! Students will receive instruction from certified/experienced instructors in skeleton and/or bobsleigh, along with a tour of our world-class facility and host venue for the 2010 Olympic sliding events. We can offer universities exclusive use of the track on specific dates throughout the season to try our sports.

  • Sports available: Bobsleigh, Skeleton
  • Contact us for pricing
  • Each participant will receive two runs. With the bobsleigh program, they will have the opportunity to be both a pilot and a brakeman in their own sled.
  • No experience is required. Athletes will receive a safety orientation and instructions prior to heading outside for an on-ice sliding session to build familiarity with the sport. All programs start at beginner-friendly start points along the track (skeleton Maple Leaf Start, bobsleigh corner seven start).
  • We can accommodate up to 16 students per session, and multiple sessions can be scheduled if required.
  • Dates available: November to March, excluding holidays and international competition weeks.

Athletic Speaker Opportunities

We are happy to arrange for athletes to come and speak to your students about their sports, their experiences and how to get involved. There will be opportunities to ask questions and get involved. Dates will be subject to athletes' training and competition schedule availability. Sports include Nordic skiing, bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton.
