Manager, Safety and Compliance
Manager, Safety and Compliance manages fulfillment of Whistler Sport Legacies’ commitment to a superior standard of safety while reporting to the President and CEO. Responsibilities include providing leadership in the prevention of incident, injuries and illnesses across all operations and venues and for ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
Primarily this role drives WSL’s three venues in maintaining and continuing improvement of health and safety while also carrying out venue first aid responder duties. Regular Full Time role may evolve and shift over time while requiring flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives and will require weekend or evening schedules.

Responsibilities
Managerial
- Primary responsibilities include managing:
- WSL COR internal audit and acts as point contact for external audits
- Hazard assessment completion and ensures adequate controls are in place to manage identified risks
- Incident reporting and investigation program including ensuring proper documentation of an incident in a timely fashion, investigating the incident, performing root cause analysis, stewarding the implementation of corrective actions and creating/sharing lessons learned
- External consultants who will guide and support WSL safety and compliance programs and key obligations
- Annual review of the SMS program and action plan
- Venue work plans and venue attendance to be determined in conjunction with venue Managing Directors
- Develop and assist implementation of a WSL health and safety management system including policies, procedures and processes designed to protect employees, volunteers, contractors, members of the public and the environment from the risks associated with the operations of the organization and ensure the system is compliant with all regulatory requirements
- Actively participate in the development of the WSL business plan and new business activities, as part of the WSL management team,
- Ensure adherence to and champion all WSL company policies and procedures
- Work with WSL venue operational managers to ensure effective safety operations
- Guide colleagues responsible for day-to-day management of health, safety and environmental aspects of the operations of the organization
- Coach and provide advice/support to personnel in safety management practices, develop and deliver safety, health and environment training and orientation programs, promotion of safety awareness, and ongoing initiatives designed to protect persons and the environment
- Establish and maintain relationships with partner organizations and internal stakeholders
- Manage and enhance relationship with applicable regulatory authorities as assigned
- Oversee all WCB claims and administer claims at all venues
- Carry out a leadership role in the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee established at each venue in compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations
- Establish and monitor systems aimed at preventing, preparing for, and responding to emergencies at all venues in co-ordination with internal and external parties including BC Ambulance and Whistler Fire services
- Assist with other initiatives as directed

First Aid Response – all venues
- Ensure colleague training programs are in place and appropriate
- Make certain OFA are trained, competent and knowledgeable in response protocols
- Safeguard equipment related to onsite first aid is compliant with current regulatory requirements
Leadership and Culture
- Responsible for directing and managing colleagues when directed with emphasis on the following areas:

- Management of appropriate partners/vendors
- Positive representative of Whistler Sport Legacies, both internally and externally

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
- University/college degree or technical diploma from a recognized post secondary institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification required
- Minimum 5 years of related work experience required
- Previous experience working with external consultants required
- Demonstrated experience and ability to implement, manage and perform audits
- Detailed knowledge of the regulatory framework of health, safety and the environment in British Columbia
- Ability to analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government legislation and regulations
- Satisfactory criminal record check is mandatory prior to commencement of employment
- Experience in adult learning/training
- Previous experience in the field of sport, construction and public safety an asset
- OFA III, (or equivalent) CPR / First Aid Certification
- Environmental stewardship practice an asset
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required
- Valid Class 4 Unrestricted BC driver’s license an asset
