Whistler Olympic Park’s $5 Wednesday Nights: Cross-country Skiing, Beginner Ski Jumping, Fat Biking, Snowshoeing & more
Whistler, BC: Whistler Olympic Park is again offering its “$5 Wednesdays” this winter season. Until the end of February, the Park will be open until 9:00 pm each Wednesday. After 3:00 pm, customers pay only $5 per person for a ski, snowshoe or fat biking ticket for the night, visitors who want to go tobogganing or sightseeing get Park access for $5 per vehicle. Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available for $5 after 3:00 pm, and the on-site restaurant in the Day Lodge offers $5 deals on meals and beverages.
Cross-country skiing is possible on five kilometres of lit beginner and intermediate trails, while snowshoers can explore the picturesque area around the Day Lodge, cross-country stadium and the biathlon range. The fire cauldron at the toboggan hill will be lit on Wednesday nights, so families should not forget their marshmallows. Those who want to learn more about biathlon can participate in the ‘Biathlon Experience’, a marksmanship lesson at the Olympic shooting range, offered at 5:30pm for the price of $20/person. Fat biking is possible in the cross country & biathlon stadium area (rental bikes available, reservation required), or those who feel adventurous can explore the non-lit trail system with headlamps.
Ski jumping for all ages will be an exciting new activity offered on Wednesday nights in January and February. Starting January 6, the “Night Flight” sessions under floodlight are drop-in entry-level sessions (6:30 – 8:00pm) for skiers with intermediate/advanced downhill or cross-country abilities. On the Park’s new beginner facility, skiers will be able to try their first jumps, which can range from as small as one meter on the introductory snow bump to, once the participants get used to the new motion, jumps from the 20 and 40 meter junior hills. Participants will jump on their own gear (downhill, telemark or cross-country skis and snow sports helmet), and qualified coaches will give instruction on correct and safe jump positions. A drop-in session costs $20.00 plus $5 for Park access on Wednesday nights. Check-in for the drop-in sessions is the Guest Services desk at the Day Lodge. More information and booking is available online or by phone at 604-964-0060.
