BC Family Day Weekend at Whistler Olympic Park: SnowKidz Sunday program, 50% trail ticket discount on Monday and more
Whistler, BC: With 30 cm of fresh snow and more in the forecast this week to add to the 137cm base, Whistler Olympic Park is well prepared for the 2017 Family Day Weekend. The winter destination South of Whistler will offer snow activities for all ages and abilities.
On February 12, the long weekend’s Sunday, the Park will host the “SnowKidz” event, which is part of the International Ski Federation’s worldwide campaign to bring children to the snow. Between noon and 4:00pm, children and youth (and their parents) can join a free Nordic terrain park session in the ski play area, located between the Daylodge and the big ski jumps. An instructor will introduce skiers to the unique terrain features which help to develop confidence, balance and overall Nordic skills through play on cross-country skis. No sign up is needed and participation is free with a day trail ticket or seasons pass (own Nordic skis or rentals required).
On Family Day, February 13, all day admission tickets for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tobogganing, fat biking and sightseeing will be 50% off (discount only available on site/at the gate on February 13) for families that want to play in the snow.
Throughout the weekend, families can not only try cross-country skiing (beginner group lessons for classic, skate and biathlon as well as private lessons available daily) or snowshoeing. They can also play on the toboggan hill, roast marshmallows by the fire cauldron or try baseboarding (Sat/Sun only, for ages 8 and up) in the demo zone by the toboggan hill or on the designated, 1.5 kilometre slope above the Daylodge. Also fat bikes equipped with snow tires will be available for rent (adult sizes only).
The Park’s shuttle bus will run Saturday, Sunday and Monday from Whistler Village and return (reservation required).
More information on the Family Day weekend activities is available at Guest Services or by phone at 604-964-0060 x 2460. Baseboarding and fat biking are weather dependent activities so guests are encouraged to check with Guest Services if they will be running.
