Lead, Track Operations

Duties for this role vary between winter and summer to support seasonal program facilitation including identifying and completing the repair, maintenance, and preparation of the Track (field of play) and support infrastructure, year round.  Previous experience is an asset in Sliding Season operations assisting understanding and communication with all operational areas including Control and Timing, First Responders, Sport and Guest Services, although open to offering additional training.  This Regular Full Time position requires flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives and requires the ability to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Track Workers in identifying and executing maintenance, preparation, repairs and improvements to the Field of Play as directed
  • Oversee duties of Track Operations colleagues to facilitate training, competition and public programs
  • Carry out duties of Track Worker as required including:
  • Daily preparation, repairs and maintenance of the Track sliding surface including: shoveling, sweeping, spritzing, slushing, and scraping
  • Execute Track clearances, identify and report safety hazards
  • Set and maintain Track shading systems as needed
  • Maintain safe access to public areas by participating in manual snow removal as needed
  • Facilitate public and sport programs as directed
  • Sled transportation (driving)
  • Repair deficiencies in trackline and support infrastructure; including but not limited to weather protection, water systems, building and grounds work.
  • Use of hand and power tools to modify, repair and fabricate concrete, wood and metal components.
  • Carry out inventory and maintenance of tools and equipment including Track Operations work areas and public program equipment
  • Record Keeping in the form of crew maintenance logs and work order documentation
  • Provide manual labour assistance on various tasks and assignments
  • Learn, instruct, and enforce correct and safe practice in ice making techniques, track temperature controls, shade system, use of hand tools, radios, power tools and equipment
  • Implement operational policies, procedures and regulations for the Bobsleigh/Skeleton/Luge Track to ensure a safe, efficient and professional operation
  • Maintain open dialogue with user groups to ensure their needs are met to the best of ability during training and competition; including athletes, coaches and officials
  • Liaise with Guest Services to ensure open communication between all departments in the facilitation of sport and public programming
  • Monitor Track Operations colleagues’ hours of work and discuss scheduling needs with Senior Supervisor and Manager
  • Perform Track Operations recruiting and colleague evaluations with Manager, Track Operations
  • Facilitate and document staff training
  • Foster a strong culture of health and safety; work with Human Resources, and Safety to ensure that all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met
  • Support all WSL departments, including Guest Services, Events, in the execution of programs

  • Assist the team with other duties as assigned or required

Position Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Safety conscious to ensure well-being of staff, guests, and athletes
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license required
  • First-Aider Experience and Certification is an asset
  • Bob/Luge/Skeleton operations experience an asset
  • Knowledge of sliding sports an asset
  • Excellent radio protocol required
  • Construction and maintenance trades experience preferred:
    • Carpentry
    • Welding
    • Refrigeration
    • Basic fabrication skills
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Valid Class 4 Unrestricted driver’s license an asset
  • Heavy equipment and machinery operation skills an asset

Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office suite
  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements

  • Personal CSA approved safety footwear required
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
