Heavy Duty Mechanic

Heavy Duty Mechanic at Whistler Olympic Park reports to the Manager, Maintenance and Operations.  Responsibilities include routine and preventative maintenance on all Whistler Sport Legacies vehicles, snow cats, snowmobiles, snow-clearing equipment, ATV’s, small motors and machinery.  Regular Salary Full Time role requires flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives including working weekends, evenings/nights and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair equipment and vehicles as required including equipment rescue when disabled remotely
  • Schedule and carry out fleet maintenance and preventative maintenance systems and schedules
  • Create and maintain a preventative maintenance, inventory, and record keeping system
  • Ensure Maintenance Building and surrounding areas, and are kept in a clean, safe, organized and presentable manner
  • Ensure maintenance records are updated and current including itemizing materials, costs, and vehicle status
  • Assist with the training and orientation of equipment operators in accordance with established procedures
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Complete a high standard in all finished work, while remaining cost effective
  • Prioritize daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections of all related equipment
  • Oversee shipping, receiving, sourcing, and procurement of parts and materials
  • Ensure adherence to all manufacturer’s guidelines and government regulations regarding vehicle equipment maintenance, repair, operation and licensing
  • Respond to emergency situations, resolving immediate safety and/or operational concerns to ensure minimal work interruption and safe operations
  • Champion and adhere to all WSL corporate policies, procedures, and positively represent the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  • Take personal accountability and responsibility for actions; take initiative to find creative solutions to problems or issues
  • Foster a strong culture of health and safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC and any other governing agency safety regulations are met
  • Assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed

Position Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Ticketed Inter-Provincial Heavy Duty Mechanic required
  • 5+ years’ Ticketed Heavy Duty Mechanic experience along with working knowledge of other related trades required
  • Working knowledge of snow-cats and their electronic digitized and hydrostatic systems required
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License required
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License or Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License an asset
  • 3+ years’ experience operating heavy snow clearing machinery an asset
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Knowledge of provincial regulations an asset
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 an asset

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills facilitating working relationships with managers, supervisors and colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to provide timely and high quality service in order to maximize athlete, volunteer, guest and colleague experiences
  • Ability to multi-task and work on equipment in inclement weather
  • Passion for sport and exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements

  • Must be comfortable working in cramped spaces
  • Mobility to work in a garage/shop and yard environment
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions while performing labour intensive duties
  • Ability to stand, crouch and bend for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and or in excess
  • Reliable transportation an asset - WOP is not serviced by transit - ride sharing available
