Facility General Maintenance

Whistler Athletes’ Centre, located in Whistler’s Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood, provides comfortable nightly and long-term accommodation for athletes, teams, sport clubs and other groups looking for affordable accommodation in Whistler. True to its mission to grow sport, no other accommodation facility in Whistler provides the level of accessibility and amenities for athletes of all sports, close to key training and competition venues in the Sea to Sky region.

Facility General Maintenance performs general preventative maintenance and repair duties for assigned buildings, furnishings, and equipment at Whistler Athletes’ Centre facilities.  Duties include painting, basic carpentry, plumbing, and related work, in addition to responding to guest related issues.  This Regular Full Time position frequently works independently during evenings and some days, providing coverage for the Manager, Facilities.


  • Work with and under the direction of the Manager, Facilities and the Manager, Whistler Athletes’ Centre
  • Prepare and paint building(s) interiors, exteriors, furniture, woodwork and complete other types of refinishing work
  • Perform interior and exterior custodial duties as needed and directed
  • Assist as directed in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems, such as plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Maintain kitchen appliances as required and directed
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • Ensure safe access to and around facilities is maintained
  • Manual snow clearing in and around buildings and structures
  • Perform landscaping, and groundskeeping maintenance duties as assigned
  • Positively represent the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  • Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met
  • Operate tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, saws, drills, and wrenches in a safe and responsible manner
  • Handle all maintenance products in a safe manner and according to WHMIS guidelines
  • Work with limited supervision; follow oral and written instructions; form and maintain effective working relationships with others internally and externally
  • Positive representative of Whistler Sport Legacies, both internally and externally
  • Take personal accountability and responsibility for actions; take initiative to find creative solutions to problems or issues
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM:  All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required

Position Requirements


  • High School graduate
  • 1+ years experience in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of the materials, tools, methods, and equipment used in a building trade such as carpentry, plumbing, and painting
  • Experience working with required tools and materials
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC and WHMIS practices
  • Valid British Columbia driver’s license

  • Ability to work with maintenance products and mechanical and handheld building tools, materials and products
  • Attention to detail and safety conscious in all aspects of the role
  • Willingness to assist other team members as needed and requested
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Physically fit and able to work for periods of time standing, crouching and kneeling
  • Able to climb and work from ladders
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
