Facilities Maintenance Associate

The Facilities Maintenance Associate is responsible for performing and overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and repairs for assigned buildings and related facilities, furnishings, and equipment at Whistler Olympic Park.  Under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance and Sport Operations, this role requires problem solving capabilities, self-direction, and flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives as needed.  WOP infrastructure includes water and waste water treatment plants, visitor day lodge, sport support buildings, maintenance buildings, ski jumping infrastructure, as well as trails and signage.  This Regular Full Time role requires the flexibility to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

Maintenance

  • Maintenance and repair of Whistler Olympic Park buildings, infrastructure, and equipment
  • At times will act as lead to ensure tasks are completed in a safe effective manner
  • Positively represent the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  • Duties include painting, carpentry, cement work, plumbing, HVAC inspections, building upkeep, basic mechanical repairs, and related tasks
  • Operate tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, saws, drills, and wrenches in a safe and responsible manner
  • Handle all maintenance products in a safe manner and according to WHMIS guidelines
  • Assist contractor with routine tasks in the operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment and Waste Water Treatment Plants
  • Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers as directed
  • Inspect and maintain mechanical systems such as plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Assist with landscaping grounds as required
  • Perform duties related to readying the facility for daily use by public and sport users
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • Work with limited supervision; follow oral and written instructions; form and maintain effective working relationships with others internally and externally
  • Positive representative of Whistler Sport Legacies, both internally and externally

Administration

  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists of building equipment maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures
  • Perform duties with limited supervision; follow oral and written instructions; form and maintain effective working relationships
  • Work within maintenance tracking software program to generate, monitor and complete work orders
  • Perform required administrative duties related to role
  • Assist Supervisor, Maintenance and Sport Operations in obtaining estimates, order supplies, equipment, and repair parts as needed

Position Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • WorkSafeBC certification required
  • Willing to pursue certification as HVAC technician, water and/or waste water treatment operations preferred
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Safe Work practices required
  • Experience in the building trades an asset
  • Carpentry, plumbing, and painting knowledge and experience including materials, tools, methods, and equipment an asset
  • Familiarity with building automation software and SCADA systems an asset
  • Valid British Columbia Driver's License

Skills

  • Ability to perform physical labour on a daily basis
  • Attention to detail necessary and safety conscious in all aspects of the role
  • Must be comfortable working in confined spaces and elevated heights
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with proven ability to prioritize projects/tasks in order to meet both internal organizational and customer needs
  • Keen and can-do attitude
  • Reliable transportation is needed as WOP is not serviced by transit
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Willingness to assist other team members within WSL as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and move up to 100 lbs
  • Physically fit and able to work for periods of time standing, crouching and kneeling
