Free Workshops: Inclusive Physical Activity (June 17)

Free Workshops on Saturday, June 17, 2017:

Sport for Life’s “Inclusive Physical Literacy” workshop will help participants to understand the importance of physical literacy development for participants with disabilities. This workshop will take participants through what universally accessible programs are and how to plan and create them. It will also help participants to develop their adaptations to fundamental movement skills to allow for different disability types to participate and have a quality first involvement experience.

Ideal participants: Rec leaders and administrators, teachers, coaches, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, supported child development staff, parents, community members, students.

Strategies and techniques for persons with a disability to engage in life long fitness.

The workshop will include information on client demographics, space considerations, person first language usage, client approach, dealing with difficult situations and direct training methods to increase both client outcomes and coach/instructor comfort. Hands on demonstrations and opportunities to try techniques for clients with disabilities such as amputations, spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions and visual impairments will be included.

Ideal participants: Rec leaders, fitness instructors, PE teachers, sport coaches, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, Educational Assistants.
