Whistler Sliding Centre: Olympic Athletes to pilot public bobsleighs during Spring Break

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Guests participating in the public bobsleigh experience “Thunder on Ice” during Spring Break will have the exciting opportunity to meet three of Canada’s Olympic bobsleigh pilots, Kaillie Humphries, Chris Spring and Lyndon Rush, who just returned from Sochi.

From March 17 – 23, 2014, the three Olympians will not only be available for photos, autographs and chats with the public participants, they will even join the Whistler Sliding Centre’s Pilot crew for the public bobsleigh sessions. Tracy Seitz, Director of the Whistler Sliding Centre, is thrilled about his guest pilots: “Having Olympic athletes pilot a public bobsleigh is a great honor both for us and for our guests. I can’t wait to hear all their Olympic stories!”  Guests participating in “Thunder on Ice” will not only experience the unique adrenaline rush when going down the track with speeds reaching 125 km plus/hour, they will also be able to watch Kaillie Humphries, Chris Spring and Lyndon Rush drive down the fastest track in the world – and maybe even be among the lucky ones to ride in their bobsleighs!

The price for the public bobsleigh experience “Thunder on Ice” (as well as for the skeleton experience “Lightning on Ice”) is $169 plus tax. Advanced booking is required (online or by calling 604-964-0040). The sliding schedule and detailed program information are available on www.whistlerslidingcentre.com.

And the Whistler Sliding Centre wants to meet even more Olympians: Any Olympic athletes -past or present- living in or visiting the Sea to Sky corridor are invited to slide for free during Spring Break! If you are or were an Olympic athlete, summer or winter, contact the Whistler Sliding Centre or just come up and introduce yourself to book your slide!
