Whistler Sliding Centre to host FIBT Skeleton Intercontinental Cup January 2-6, 2014

Whistler, BC: From January 2-6, 2014, the FIBT Skeleton Intercontinental Cup will be held at the Whistler Sliding Centre. The Intercontinental Cup is a series of eight international skeleton events in Europe and North America focused on the participating nations’ National B Team athletes. The series is the final stepping-stone for developing skeleton athletes before they participate in the World Cup circuit and on the Olympic level.

Spectators will have the chance to see the sliding world’s future top athletes compete on the world’s fastest skeleton track in Whistler. Over 50 athletes from 20 nations (men & women) will compete in the five-day event which is comprised of three training and two competition days. Thursday, Friday and Saturday (January 2-4) will be training days for all participants (starting at 9:30am), Sunday and Monday (January 5 & 6) will be race days with Intercontinental Cup competitions starting at 9:30am.
The entry to watch training and competitions is free on all five days. Spectators can use the Excalibur Gondola for free (provided they are not carrying any ski gear) to get up to the Sliding Centre. Public sliding (bobsleigh and skeleton) will also be available in the afternoons after the training/events, reservation is required under 604-964-0040, more information under www.whistlerslidingcentre.com.
