Whistler, BC:  Whistler Olympic Park is the perfect place for family fun in the summer too!  From June 27 until September 6, the 2010 Olympic Winter Games legacy venue will be open for visitors to try a variety of activities to discover the sport landmarks and the Park’s spectacular landscape in the Callaghan Valley.  Operation hours are 10:00am until 4:30pm daily. Park access is $5 per carload, the proceeds will be used to support sport programming in the winter.

With the park fee, visitors receive a $5 coupon for summer biathlon. Visitors can take aim at the Olympic biathlon range and, with guidance from a qualified instructor, shoot an authentic 22 caliber biathlon rifle. They will learn interesting facts about the Olympic sport of biathlon and test their marksmanship, shooting at the targets which have a 115mm or a mere 45mm diameter. ‘Experience Biathlon’ costs $10 per person, the activity is available for ages 8 years and up, no prior experience is required. Advance booking is not necessary, check-in for the activity is at the Snack Shack at the biathlon range.

After the target training, visitors can head out on the trails and discover Whistler Olympic Park's history on a self-guided interpretive tour. Three routes with different difficulty levels (easy to demanding) are available to lead hikers along the famous sport stadiums, past First Nations artwork, and even up to the top of the Olympic ski jumps. New this year: before starting their walking tour, visitors can pick up an orienteering passport which they can punch at different stations along their trail, and once completed, they receive a free gift!

The Park will be venue for major events throughout the summer, such as the Tough Mudder on June 20 & 21, the Red Bull 400 race on July 19, Ironman Canada on July 26, recreational biathlon competitions on August 2 and 30, and the Whistler Summer Biathlon Championships on September 25-27.  Furthermore, summer training camps will be held for high performance and development biathlon and cross-country ski athletes.
