Ski Callaghan receives early Christmas present

Friday, December 20, 2013

Whistler, BC:  Mother Nature and Santa Claus have combined forces to bring Ski Callaghan some white gold for the Holidays.  10cm have fallen overnight and it is snowing heavily in the Callaghan Valley today.  This snowfall is enough for Ski Callaghan to open Saturday for the holiday crowd with over 40km of groomed and rolled terrain for cross country skiing.  An additional 13.5km of trails are available for snowshoeing.  Terrain offerings allow for both skiing and snowshoeing on our dog-friendly trails.

If we receive somewhat less than desirable weather and conditions later this weekend, Ski Callaghan has contingency plans in place to ensure a fabulous winter ski and snowshoe experience. The higher elevation trails already have a snow pack of about one meter – more than enough for classic and skate skiing, as well as for snowshoeing.

In total, there will be over 54 kilometers of trails available for Nordic activities, as follows:

40.8km of groomed trails for skate skiing with track set where possible:

  • Mainline 7.4km
  • Upper Wild Spirit 3.2km
  • Lower Wild Spirit 4.1km
  • Real Life 4.5km
  • Meadows Loop 1.9km
  • Parkway 1.8km
  • Ski Jump Loop 1.0km

  • Neverland  6.0km
  • Madeley Creek Loop 3.9km

13.5 kilometers for snowshoeing:

  • Mountain View 2.5km
  • Lower Line Road 0.7km
  • Around the World 1.8km
  • Top of the World 0.6km
  • Half Way Around the World 0.4km
  • Inside Passage 1.0km

  • Real Life 4.5km (ski & snowshoe)
  • Brandywine View 1.7km (snowshoe only)
  • Around the World 1.8km (snowshoe only)

Tobogganing will be possible on the slopes at the base of Whistler Olympic Park’s ski jumps with six lanes suitable for beginners and advanced kids and adults.
